When I first saw the thread title, I thought you're singing Liberty Mutual's jingle.

We need a good war. With as much mechanization as we have, I think the first draft call-ups should be 40 year-old women. Place them in Amazon Battalions. Those that don't die quickly, might forget about their damn privilege. Trying to stay alive will do that for you.

Discharge fast enough and you'd call it an explosion. @Doctor-Phibes think of it as job security.

If you haven't used these, they're good. The Hercules line is good, too. https://www.harborfreight.com/icon-hand-tools HF ain't just junk anymore.

Interesting. Also interesting to read about the "non war" part of things. Custer’s appearance instantly attracted attention—as he intended. A staff officer described him as “one of the funniest looking beings you ever saw, and looks like a circus rider gone mad! He wears a huzzar jacket and tight trousers, of faded black velvet trimmed with tarnished gold lace.” Not to mention a red cravat. THe things they wore, the equipment, the conditions that were normal for them, etc.

@Jolly said in "Scientific" American: Any damn fool can do mass spec. And computers do the analysis now. I vote for rap... I think you may be underestimating the incompetence of humans. My brother is an engineer doing field service and repairs on mass-specs, and he has a few stories.

@Jolly said in Family tree discovery: Yeah, but I still like the dog. I love that painting. It hung in my parents house for about 40 years, and I managed to get it when we divvied up all the stuff.

Yes, you are probably right Jolly. He wants the show to continue and uses this as another way to get sympathy. I do know that he has been quite popular for a long time so hopefully was able to save some money over the years. I remember watching the reruns of his Magnum show in Taiwan.

@jon-nyc said in Meanwhile, in New York: Under investigation by whom? The Daily Caller? How could it be any kind of offense to receive ‘unsolicited’ advice? So if I walk up behind the judge and scream ‘cage the fat man’ then he’s tainted? From the story in the Daily Mail you didn't bother to read : A spokesman for Engoron denied the story and said he was 'wholly uninfluenced' by Bailey, but The New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct reportedly is looking into whether he violated any rules, according to NBC New York. That's lifted pretty much verbatim from the NBC story... https://www.nbcnewyork.com/investigations/new-york-lawyer-tried-advise-judge-trump-trial-civil-fraud/5395676/ Look, if we're not gonna play fair, let's not play fair. In a game with no rules, there are no rules. Since we're going to make this into a political case, let's nail this judge's professional hide to the wall.

@89th said in Falcon 9 from up close: Sadly, I missed the explosion in 2014. I watched it from my driveway in Herndon. I had seen Wallops launches from there before. The rocket looked about the size of a fingernail at arms length, and no sound. I watched the liftoff on my iPad, then looked up expecting to see the rocket in a few seconds. I never saw a thing, except on the iPad. It didn't get high enough.
